Abolishment of Sati

Afonso de Alburquieque, the second Governor of the Portugese India passed a government decree passed in the year 1510, abolishing the practice of sati. Later the 20^th Governor of the Portugese India, Constantino de Bragança, in 1560 banned not just sati but also held the act of abetment of sati as punishable.
